B. Compilation and processing personal data
Dr. Piazolo processes your personal data for this research project on the ultimatum bargaining game only. You have to provide your consent in advance. No third party is allowed to use the data; it will not be forwarded to a third party.
You can participate in the experiment without providing us with your name and email address.
Based on previous research on decision making in an ultimatum bargaining game, we know that certain characteristics – some of them being personal in nature – are significant determinants of a participant’s decision. Therefore, we will explicitly ask you to provide us with this information. Based on the state law on data security [§ 22, Landesdatenschutzgesetz Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany (16.03.2018)], we are allowed to do this.
We will ask for the following data as requirements for participation: city of residence, gender, education, occupation, population group, religiousness, risk aversion, and year of birth.
In addition, we will ask for three voluntary characteristics. You can still participate in the research project without providing the following information on your approximate monthly income, name and email address.
You will have to provide us with your consent, before you send off your decision sheet.
Both, the email address as well as your name are not used for analyzing the data with the help of econometric tools. The research will be fully anonymous in this respect.
To participate in the actual allocation of an inheritance of 1,200 EUR, you are required to provide us with your email address. The same holds for you participating in the so-called Keynes Beauty contest on the most beautiful number. Here you might win an additional 200 EUR. Without your email address, we will not be able to contact you in the case of winning an actual amount of Euros.
C. Provision of contact data
For questions about your rights as a research participant or to discuss problems, complaints or concerns about a research study, or to obtain information or offer input, contact the UIW Institutional Research Board (IRB) at (210) 805-3036.

Declaration of consent – for participating in the research experiment on allocating an inheritance
On the following pages you will have to make various decisions as part of a research project on the ultimatum bargaining game. We aim at analyzing the decision making process in an international setting with participants from Argentina, Germany, and the United States.
In addition to the decisions taken, we will ask you to provide us with personal and social characteristics that exerted a significant influence in similar experiments in previous research. They are the following: city of residence, gender, education, occupation, population group, strength of religious belief, risk aversion, and year of birth.
You can participate in the experiment making your decisions as you wish without providing us with your name or email address. Before sending off your decision sheet, you are able to review it and adopt changes.
This declaration of consent can be withdrawn any time from your side. The withdrawal of consent will lead to a complete erasion of the (personal) data you provided.
For participation in the drawing and the subsequent allocation of the real $1,200 (USD) between three of the participants, you need to provide us with your email address. The same is true for participating in the additional bonus experiment on the Keynes Beauty contest for an additional $200 (USD). Otherwise, we will not be able to inform the winning parties.
I give my consent to participate in the following experiment taking decisions to allocate an inheritance between three participants. Before sending off my final decision sheet, I will have to provide one more written consent.
Withdrawal of consent
Each participant has the right of objection as well as the right to withdraw the previously given consent in providing (personal) data. Though, due to the anonymity of the data – Dr. Marc Piazolo can only withdraw and delete data input, that is directly linked to an email address or the name of the participant.
A prerequisite to erase all the information provided from your side is the previous – voluntary – provision of your email address when submitting your final decision sheet.
By providing your email address in the withdrawal of consent, I will notify you on the complete erasement of your data.
“Herewith, I am withdrawing my consent to providing data to this research project. All of the personal and general data I provided with my decision sheet has to be deleted instantly and irreversibly.
